Canvas photographic prints are very popular today as they can be hung on walls without a protective glass, and also without any worry of water damage and scratches. We apply a protective coating which gives the substrate a shiny look. This protective coating strengthens the canvas and adds to its longevity.

Canvases onto print come in a variety of textures, quality and refinement. At Superchrome we use finer quality canvas for printing artistic works. Today, canvas onto print comes in different shapes and sizes to accommodate modern printing requirements.

Earlier, linen was commonly used for printing in place for canvas. Slowly cotton took over and became popular because of its stretching capacity, mechanical weave and low price. Even though many beginners and mid level artists choose cotton, professional artists prefer linens. Needlepoint canvas, made of cotton or linen, is also used. Recently plastic canvas has been introduced in the market. The quality of canvas depends upon the mesh size and the number of threads per inch.

Considering the number of horizontal and vertical threads per inch, canvas can be classified into three: monofilament canvas, Penelope canvas and interwoven canvas. The monofilament contains one vertical thread and one horizontal thread per mesh, whereas Penelope has two threads per mesh. In the case of interwoven canvas, vertical threads run under and over each horizontal thread.
